The Community Healer was always every important to people through out human history. Now more than ever and for numerous reasons people are reawakening and looking to learn these methods of healing of keeping ones family healthy.
The Seasonal Herbal “Herbalism by the Season Program” is hands-on herbal learning. Our time together will be spent discussing plants, blending herbs together for tea, incense, vinegar, tincture, topical application, culinary uses and much more. Many of the herbs, roots, seeds, berry and barks we will be learning about and using, grow right on the classroom property, so you will get to know them in each of the 4 seasons of the year. Together we will celebrate many wondrous healing plants. These classes take place around the kitchen table, in and around the gardens and woodlands so you can interact with, see, smell, taste and touch these plants throughout the Seasons. Classes are small which lends to personal learning and gaining the confidence using herbs everyday that community healers have used over the centuries.
The Curriculum includes:
- Materia Medica of Specific Plants being covered
- Herbal Glossary, Large 3 Ring Binder
- Recommendations, Networking and Resources
- A brief overview the systems of the body that corresponds with each season (Including fun Anatomy Coloring pages)
- A brief history of Western Herbalism
- A brief overview the different Tradition herbal healing systems
- Culpepper’s Alchemical Correspondences
- Language of Plants
- Planting, Harvesting, Wild crafting
- Proper Drying, Preservation and Storage techniques
- Using Herbs as Foods,Tonics and Medicines
- Tea Making- exploring Infusions & Decoctions
- Herbal Energetics & Formulation
- Culinary Cold Remedies
- Herbal Treats with Recipes
- Topical Applications: Poultices and Compresses
- Creating infused oils, salves, syrups, vinegar, honeys, elixirs, tinctures and more
- Preparing for the Cold and Flu Season
- Short Field trips, Take Home Projects, Foraging and so much more…
- A Certificate of Completion will be awarded at the end of the Course
The Herbalism by the Season course is accepting students for its 2023 Spring session!
There are 12 classes in the course is approximately 72 hours of class time, which will meet 1 day per month. This year we meeting on Sunday.
Class Starts at 9:30am and concludes around 4:00pm. You will get an hour and half lunch break. You may bring lunch or go out.
If you are unable to join in the fun till June, September or December that is OK ! As long as there is available seating you are welcome to enroll.
